… but I might help Lily do so.
So I’m sitting at my desk listening to music and checking out any new questions posted on dooce® community (I like it, it’s fun, you should go there and ignore any naysayers.) and Lily is under my desk chewing on something. I can hear ripping and I look under to see what she’s gotten hold of now.
(She has a thing for dirty socks, you know. Perfectly good socks that just haven’t been washed yet that she stole outta the laundry basket.)
And it is my husband’s favorite drink coaster. It’s really just a square of the carpet that used to be in his old office, but he really likes this coaster and Lily is shredding it.
Shredding things. It’s what big giant 8 month old puppies do.
Except…
When Lily is doing something she is not supposed to be doing (and it’s portable for her) she will bring it to wherever I am. Like she’s asking my permission or something. If I see her I will take the object away from her and tell her how badly she sucks at misbehaving…
If I see her bring it to me.
So I had just paid enough attention to move my feet while she made herself comfy beneath my desk, but I didn’t really look at her until a minute or so later when I heard the ripping sound. The carpet ripping sound.
She’d just shredded a corner of the coaster.
"Hey, that’s not yours," I tell her and she lets me take it from her mouth. "Oh, no. You are trouble now, Lily. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk."
"Well, maybe I can fix it so he won’t notice," and I pick up a pair of scissors and trim off the corner and down the edge of the coaster about three quarters of an inch wide.
And then I give her the strip I just cut off.
‘Cause that it what I do when it’s funny to me.
Kinda a like when Lily is bark, Bark, BARKING; and I put fingers in my ears instead of fussing at her because I like to watch her barking. But we live in an old house with high ceilings and no carpet so the loudness of her bark and the added echo become too much for me (It hurts, much like the booming of a car’s sound system from outside.) and so I squirt her with the water bottle, but she just turns her head towards me to catch the water in her mouth and then I play at letting her try to catch the squirts of water (she does the same thing outside in the rain) because I really suck at disciplining Lily…
