It’s a girl …

7 November 2012

She is aptly named Sterling and I will be keeping that name for her because it is perfect.  Just look at the silver coat she is wearing!

Sterling is half Greyhound and half Irish Wolfhound — which is why this crazy lady with a Great Pyrenees and a Jack Rusell mix fell in love at first sight with 0MG! another dog.

I have often talked of wanting another Whippet, or a Greyhound, and an Irish Wolfhound, but the Irish Wolfhound only has an average lifespan of 7 years.  That is a very sad trait of the breed (large breed dogs in general do not live as long as other breeds).  It is my hope that because of Sterling's breed mix she will be with us a good ten years or more.

Now here is the best (but really the worst part) about dear Sterling.  She comes from a litter that the owner was breeding for males.  He "eliminates" the females of the litter — at least he did until about 4 litters ago when the lady I got her from began taking all the females (he also breeds Greyhounds together for the males).

You should go to Facebook right now and like her page:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Hamkinsons-hand-raised-Greyhounds/286402671393386 because Hollie does not hand raise the puppies for profit.  Instead she cares for them like any other rescue group would and does her best to place them in good homes.  Now that makes Holli a very honorable person to me.  What she does is pretty damn awesome.

And to think I only found her via a search to look at Greyhound puppies.

Sterling is gorgeous! And what a breed combination! You’ll have to post lots of photos of her as she grows. Congrats on the new family member. May she bring you many years of love and joy.
