A Ladies Christmas Tea to be more exact.  My friend D invited me.  It was sponsored by her church.  Apparently they have one every year, but this year they had it at a local country club and the funds raised by ticket sales went to benefit Bluegrass Domestic Violence Prevention.  Clicking on the photo will take you to their website:

Ladies-Christmas-Tea

The event was really quite nice.  Turns out the ladies are served by their husbands!  D’s hubby, J, was there dispensing your choice of single packed tea bag (I had three cups of Earl Grey!) and later some little sandwiches.  On each table there was a three tiered serving tray over loaded with plenty of little sweets to choose from. Later finger sandwiches and other hot hors d’oeuvres were served to us by all the men in white shirts and black ties.  D’s Pastor actually wore a tuxedo for the event!

On our tables were these little party favors to take home with us:

The picture sucks.  I know.  The theme of the event was "hope."  In front of each place setting was a framed saying regarding hope.  The little hope ornament was included with your ticket for the event.  D treated me to the event, but still I donated the $25 gift offering they suggested.

D also treated two young ladies from her church for the occasion.  They were so lovely and charming to meet.  D (like my Miss B) is very popular and knows a lot of people.  I couldn’t tell you how many ladies came up to our table just to say hello and give her a hug!

We didn’t get home until after 10!  I was so sleepy.  And so stuffed with all kinds of little delicacies!

This afternoon is the department (our office works under) holiday party.  Since it is always casual Friday around here, I kept to a pair of jeans and a nice white blouse — but I put a little blue ribbon in my hair for the party!

I think my new computer will arrive by FedEx today.  I’ve got my fingers crossed!

The Mikado…

10/21/2008

So a couple of weeks ago I was at my husband’s place of employment (because I can’t see properly and needed an eye exam badly) and while visiting his boss I noticed this really cool little plant on her desk.

It looked so futuristic and some what minimal, too.  It also reminded me of old hat pins in a holder.  Not that I’m old enough to have used such things.  It’s just another one of "those" items that float in the image files of my brain.

I am just all over this little plant in her office and then I read the card and discover it is called a "mikado" and I’m immediately reminded of my high school’s production of "The Mikado!"  It was the most fun of all the productions I was involved in during that time of my life.  I can still hear Laura’s voice and see Chris’ dancing!

And my hubby’s boss gives me the plant.  Just Like That!  And she is saying something "like," while it was a thoughtful gesture from the person who gave it to her, it really wasn’t her taste and she was sure she would kill it because she is more of an outside gardener than in.

I brought it to work and put it on my desk just in the little gold container it came in (a conventional, but plastic, clay looking pot was inside the outer gold plastic pot).  Yesterday hubby and I were were at Target and looking for a bowl and some rocks to place it upon — as per the instructions!  I didn’t want to rush into buying anything for the plant until I was sure I wouldn’t kill it either.

And now this is on my desk at work:

mikado         midado

Nice, eh?

And then also while I’m blogging this AT WORK, but on my lunch hour, this finally arrived:

pop up book kit

I’ve already checked it out thoroughly and I’m certain that I will be making these books for myself.  Now I will be able to make a pop-up book from scratch after making these!

Isn’t this lovely?

lovely large mug

I picked it up at Target yesterday, too.  It is now my official at-the-office coffee mug.  It is just so pretty!  And it holds a whopping 16 ounces of delicious coffee!  They also had them in purple and red!

Don’t you love it when you’re at work and someone sends you a joke via email that makes you put your head on your desk to laugh and laugh ’cause you just weren’t expecting it:

A man breaks into a house to look for money and guns.  Inside, he finds a couple in bed.  He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to a chair.  While tying the homeowner’s wife to the bed the convict gets on top of her, kisses her neck, then gets up and goes into the bathroom.

While he’s in there, the husband whispers over to his wife,

"Listen, this guy is an escaped convict.  Look at his clothes!  He’s probably spent a lot of time in jail and hasn’t seen a woman in years.  I saw how he kissed your neck.  If he wants sex, don’t resist, don’t complain:  do whatever he tells you.  Satisfy him no matter how much he nauseates you.  The guy is obviously very dangerous. If he gets angry, he’ll kill us both.  Be strong, honey, I love you!"

His wife responds,

"He wasn’t kissing my neck. He was whispering in my ear.  He told me he was gay, thinks you’re cute, and asked if we had any Vaseline. I told him it was in the bathroom.  Be strong, honey. I love you, too!"

Yeah, I know.  Totally not PC, but so damn funny — so bite me.

And on another note:  Will this come out the way you’re already leaning?

UPDATE:   01 Dec 08; The Mikado bit it.  I tried to save over the Thanksgiving weekend, but it was too far gone.  I’m looking for another.  They’re just too cool looking not to try again.  *sigh*

Hollow Fish...

You see it. Don’t you?

Oh, come on!

It’s HOLLOW FISH!

You know — like this guy!

Yeah, well.  *sigh*  My Darling Son didn’t get it either.

Crap.

I didn’t do it.  The Minniekins, did.  We got her this little bag of six squeakit toys which she destroyed in like an hour.  Maybe.

There were little pieces of plastic everywhere.  We went to bed that night and woke up with more little pieces of plastic.   It’s four days later and we’re still finding squeakit bits here and there.  And everywhere.

I don’t know what became of Hollow Fish.  I’ve not seen him since I snapped that picture with ye ole cell phone camera.

Hubby and I arrived at Keeneland in fresh work clothes, but with regular shoes instead of sneakers.  I lost the invitation like two days after I received it and couldn’t remember where in Keeneland this wedding was supposed to happen.  Lucky for us to meet up with another couple who knew exactly where to go.

Ali was in the ladies room (with her darling daughter and others) seemingly ready to go.   We found Allan in the Clubhouse wearing his brand new plaid wedding chucks waiting for his time…

but first there was this stop to greet a very important guest.   Ali’s big brother (a reverend) read something special from Kahlil Gibran…

He also spilled some dirt about Ali…   and reminded Allan that he was now becoming the older brother (in law).

Ali and Allan exchanged personal vows.   Ali’s darling son carried the rings, and her darling daughter opened the clasp of the chain they were looped upon.

And here is Alikins greeting that same very important guest.   Ali posed for this money shot as a Radio Paradise friend helped with the symmetry of the cleavage.

I’d never been to a wedding held at Keeneland, but I’d highly recommend it as a venue for anyone’s wedding.  It was just that charming.   The breeze at Keeneland made for a much cooler outside wedding than what it would have been if they’d had it some place in Lexington proper.

It was such a lovely wedding.

All the flowers set at tables were in KERR jars (Ali’s maiden name)!  And I met another blogger!  I had taken pictures of her, but they just weren’t good enough to post (so sad they were), but she looked so marvelous I was downright jealous!

There were so many delicious and hot hors d’oeuvres being offered I began to think maybe they didn’t need to serve dinner, still the dinner menu was absolutely fabulous.  I didn’t try the rosemary roasted prime rib or citrus glazed roast turkey, but I did have some apricot-cranberry chutney and melt in your mouth wild rice stuffed chicken breast, caesar salad, fresh fruit, and a bite of Kentucky bread pudding.

Allan and Ali hadn’t bothered with name cards at place settings so we were lucky enough to have them happen to sit with us for the meal!

The cupcakes were JUST THAT GOOD.  And I did manage to take some home to have for breakfast and lunch on Saturday.  I also bagged hubby a piece of cheese cake for his breakfast.

I wish I had another cupcake right now!

It’s nice and warm in the afternoons.  Hubby and I come home and take Harold outside.  We sit on the porch while he wanders about the front yard.  Today we took the puppies out with us.  They’re pretty obedient about staying in the yard.  Minnie was really enthralled with Harold.  She’s laying next to him, watching, Emma approaches — and she growls at Emma; like this is mine, back off  And Emma does!

When I have down time, or need a break at work, I surf the net.  Sometimes I’ll check my personal email or read a blog, but most of the time I check out news sites.  I like to keep up with the world, you know.

I always go to CNN first.  I’m scrolling through the page and I see that today’s "iReport" assignment has to do with commuting to work and I had just taken that picture of my big blue bike that I posted last week…so yeah, I submitted a short bit.  And they published it!  MY BIG BLUE BIKE.

So you should click that link and go see — and comment, will ya!

Here’s some more pics from this afternoon, too:  Harold through the pointys:

Emma and Minnikins have found…something, thinks Hubby:

And one more bit of goodness:  I now have TWO paying customers for my little home business!  WOOT!

This is Minnie…

04/28/2008

We adopted her on Saturday via the Bluegrass Shih Tzu Resuce.  I know, she doesn’t look anything like a Shih Tzu!

Anyway…

She is 4 years old and considered to be half Jack Russell and half Italian Greyhound.  Initially the group thought she might be half whippet, but her small size (barely 11 lbs) seems to sway more towards the Italian.

Either way, Minnie has been blessd in personality and temperment with the best of both breeds.  She is just an awesome little dog!

Emphasis on little.

This is Harold, the newest addition to our home.  He was a birthday gift (from me) to my Darling Husband.  Hubby was very surprised and tickled to receive him.

We let him roam about the living room while we prepared his habitat.  He seems to feel very safe in his new home and was not shy at all.

Okay, maybe he was a little shy when Emma and Sophie checked him out.  Emma was a bit startled and would jump when he’d suddenly poke out his head at her.  Sophie sat and watched him sit and do nothing.  Then he walked away from her.   She and Emma followed.  Later, after we’d put him back into his habitat, Sophie just sat and watched his habitat.

I think she’s confused.

This is Harold in the living room and this is Harold in his habitat.  I filmed him while we had him outstide for a bit, but I seem to have deleted that clip.  *sigh*

This his Harold in his habitat this morning.  Emma’s not so chicken when he’s in the box…

You can read some stuff about Hingeback Harold here and here.
