…using my new MAC Book!
It arrived via Fed Ex to my office Friday. I took it out of the box immediately! My workmates joined me to watch the welcome screen and to ooh and ahh over my Mac book’s over all awesomeness.
At home, E came over to bask in its glory, and my darling hubby was soon home to do the initial set up. I mighta coulda done it, but why take that pleasure from him. He is an IT guy you, know!
It is just so beautiful! I took mucho pictures with my cell phone and I hope to have them up on flickr tomorrow.
I am just so tired! I’ve been finishing with the moving of things from the old G4 hard drive to the external that is now hooked up to my Mac book. I also began sorting through the slew of stuff I’ve managed to accumulate on that external HD — but only managed to chip at the iceburg of a chore.
*sigh*
I’m just so excited. This is my very own first brand new computer. Since my hubby is the computer geek we’ve always gotten new computers for him and then I would take the hand-me-downs. I was glad to get them because it meant we didn’t have to fight over computer time!
Hubby’s old Dell crashed the week before Thanksgiving and we got him a new one that week. They had an awesome "black Friday" sale and we took full advantage of it, but for my new ‘puter we had to take out a loan. Ouch. I was surprised we even qualified in the wake of these economic times, but I had to try! Like I’d posted earlier, the old girl was on her way out and I couldn’t handle dealing with another crash after hubby’s.
My new Adobe Web Suite will be arriving next week. Oh what fun I’m going to have with the updated versions of all my old software, too!
I’ve decided to name my new Mac book Sylvia — because of the lovely silver color of her aluminum case. It was E that moved me to name her!
No lie! I’m pooped and on my way to bed. I just couldn’t wait any longer to post using my new Mac!
A Ladies Christmas Tea to be more exact. My friend D invited me. It was sponsored by her church. Apparently they have one every year, but this year they had it at a local country club and the funds raised by ticket sales went to benefit Bluegrass Domestic Violence Prevention. Clicking on the photo will take you to their website:

The event was really quite nice. Turns out the ladies are served by their husbands! D’s hubby, J, was there dispensing your choice of single packed tea bag (I had three cups of Earl Grey!) and later some little sandwiches. On each table there was a three tiered serving tray over loaded with plenty of little sweets to choose from. Later finger sandwiches and other hot hors d’oeuvres were served to us by all the men in white shirts and black ties. D’s Pastor actually wore a tuxedo for the event!
On our tables were these little party favors to take home with us:

The picture sucks. I know. The theme of the event was "hope." In front of each place setting was a framed saying regarding hope. The little hope ornament was included with your ticket for the event. D treated me to the event, but still I donated the $25 gift offering they suggested.
D also treated two young ladies from her church for the occasion. They were so lovely and charming to meet. D (like my Miss B) is very popular and knows a lot of people. I couldn’t tell you how many ladies came up to our table just to say hello and give her a hug!
We didn’t get home until after 10! I was so sleepy. And so stuffed with all kinds of little delicacies!
This afternoon is the department (our office works under) holiday party. Since it is always casual Friday around here, I kept to a pair of jeans and a nice white blouse — but I put a little blue ribbon in my hair for the party!

I think my new computer will arrive by FedEx today. I’ve got my fingers crossed!
and sticking!

Ain’t it purty!

Clicking on this picture will take you to its larger version and you’ll see E waving out of one of her upstairs windows! She is back from the moobie making and is now busy at the rehabing of her upstairs.
Look how lovely on the deck and all. I’m looking forward to lots of snow and maybe even some snowman making!

Oh, and here’s Gracie on the porch! Recall that she belongs to my darling son (who is now living with us again).

She really is that cute in person, too. And so very sweet. Beware! She will totally lick your face off!

What? You thought I was kidding?

It really is a great hair cut. I took these today, but I got the hair cut on Thursday. This is two days later and I’ve not washed, styled it, or anything. Hell, look how crooked that part is! This is after sleeping on it for two nights. It’s a bit flat, but still very presentable.
Wow. I just realized I have FABULOUS BED HAIR. Awesome, heh? And did you notice how much thinner my face AND NECK are getting! Even with the wonky angle I had for this photo!
Tomorrow E will be coming over for morning coffee and we got these to surprise her. I know she will totally get them and then we’ll order a set for her … or give her ours in case she can’t wait …

I also ordered this a couple of weeks ago.
It’s very handy at work when I have to leave the office, but I’m still drinking my coffee… Already a workmate is getting herself one. Be sure to shop around for these — prices vary all over the internet. I got the best deal I could find, but maybe you can do better (and buy me another one!).
For drinking and carrying my water I usually just keep refilling the same old AquaFina bottle and replacing it as it would get too grody for cleaning any longer — or I just effing lost/left the damn bottle somewhere. But I’m reading how these plastic bottles shouldn’t be reused or to drink from them at all if they’ve been in the heat — guess where I’d leave mine A LOT: The car. Crap.
I didn’t feel guilty about buying the occasional bottle because I would use them forever, you know. I had no landfill guilt because I’d throw them in the recycling bin whenever I could. Then I broke down and ordered one of these. The one on the right …
I’ve been hemmin’ and hawin’ over this decision for some time. And then a week after I get it a workmate gives me one she got at a conference for free (the one on the left)! But it’s all good. Hubby decided he would utilize the freebie instead of us buying him one like mine. I chose mine specifically because it holds 32 ounces. And the top is attached by that cordage. Neither are insulated, but hey, I’ll drink warm water when I’m parched. It’s still water.
Hell, even Emma could tell you that!
And now for the coolest news of all: At Classmates. com I came across the profile of a guy I went to high school with. Someone I’d not seen or heard of in nearly thirty years. And she is still in better physical shape than me! How awesome it that!
First of all NO MIGRAINE!
Monday was a bit stressful at work because I got some work passed on to me just because somebody else didn’t want to do it. I got a bit pissed at first, but then just took it in stride. I’m up for a promotion and the little things like this (accepted with the proper attitude) can only help solidify that deal.
On Tuesday I offered up the Saucy Barmaid (my Russian tea cozy) to my dear Wendy:

Wendy fell in love with her as easily as I did when I first received her almost thirty years ago.
I had made friends with this couple that had immigrated out of Russia via Israel — that I met when I was a kid working at K-Mart! A couple of years into that friendship the mother of the wife sent this tea cozy to them to be given to me. It was only one of a few lovely things the Kogan’s had given me from their homeland. Eventually they moved to Washington state (after both of our children were born) and I’ve lost track of them.
If you’ve been following this blog at all then you know that I am trying to pare down on the amount of stuff I live with (working towards that whole sparse effect also known as minimalism) and the Saucy Barmaid is just one of the treasures I am parting with by finding these things good homes. So now she is going to new home where she will be much loved. Keep watch for her new adventures at Wendy’s blog, "The Daily Puppet."
On Wednesday a colleague brought her baby girl over to visit with me:

I got to have her to myself for a little while and I think that may be how the knees at her pants got dirty. She’s crawling and we did a lot of exploring together. Looks like the office carpet hasn’t been cleaned in a long while. Oh, yeah, and then we played blocks!
On Thursday I got a new client for my little work at home business! And one of my previous clients has come back for more of my work! That Mac Book Pro is closer to becoming mine!
And I learned that we had a three day weekend coming up, too!
Friday was the most amazing day!
To begin with it was a workmate’s birthday coming up and so that meant cake! Cup cakes! Delicious cup cakes! With pinwheels!

And the little pinwheels totally worked!
On Friday I received an email notice from BlogHer that I had won a prize! And I’m still entered to win another! These are so cool. I don’t know whether I’ll give mine away or PLAY WITH IT MYSELF! It looks like so much fun — even to me — a 47 year old fat lady!
Then later that afternoon I discovered the whereabouts of a childhood friend. I haven’t decided if I will contact her, but I did find out all kinds of up-to-date stuff about her that was really cool (except that her dad had passed away in July). My best memories of her brings on such warm moments. I dunno. It may just be best to leave her alone.
*sigh*
Sophie was very happy to greet me when I got home on Friday afternoon, too! Even if she did make it a bit difficult to snap some pictures of her with my cell phone:

The weekend ahead looks just as lovely!
I know I post complaints about my effing migraines, how slowly the weight is coming off, our very lower middle class income, my arthritis, my struggles with mental illness, and lousy hair cuts, BUT…
Honestly, I am blessed.
A workmate is having surgery this morning. She has a herniated disk in her very upper back. She will be off from work at least four and maybe six weeks. She’s been in severe pain for over a week now and maybe this morning they will fix her problem and she will finally get some relief.
We have this thing at UK where you can donate a vacation day to a sick bank for when fellow employees have an extended illness. I’m donating one and the other girls in the office said they will, too. The sick bank has oodles of these vacation days so we know that our workmate will be able to manage financially while she recuperates.
I hope your place of employment has such a program because that is a blessing we don’t ever want to have to use, but thank God it’s available to us!
…I was making some coffee (decaf) and I nearly missed seeing the most red cardinal ever. It was in the neighbor’s back yard, but it was just so striking with color a glimpse of it caught the corner of my eye. I barely had time to truly look and see what I saw … and it was gone.
I’m feeling much better today than I have in in a couple of weeks. I know partly the reason was because a friend let me know she was now blogging and her blog turned out to be such a treat! I managed to read it up to the 18th, but only because she hadn’t yet posted today. It’s lots ‘o fun and you should go check it out NOW!
I expect to be back to my old self soon.
Hubby and I arrived at Keeneland in fresh work clothes, but with regular shoes instead of sneakers. I lost the invitation like two days after I received it and couldn’t remember where in Keeneland this wedding was supposed to happen. Lucky for us to meet up with another couple who knew exactly where to go.

I’d never been to a wedding held at Keeneland, but I’d highly recommend it as a venue for anyone’s wedding. It was just that charming. The breeze at Keeneland made for a much cooler outside wedding than what it would have been if they’d had it some place in Lexington proper.
It was such a lovely wedding.
All the flowers set at tables were in KERR jars (Ali’s maiden name)! And I met another blogger! I had taken pictures of her, but they just weren’t good enough to post (so sad they were), but she looked so marvelous I was downright jealous!
There were so many delicious and hot hors d’oeuvres being offered I began to think maybe they didn’t need to serve dinner, still the dinner menu was absolutely fabulous. I didn’t try the rosemary roasted prime rib or citrus glazed roast turkey, but I did have some apricot-cranberry chutney and melt in your mouth wild rice stuffed chicken breast, caesar salad, fresh fruit, and a bite of Kentucky bread pudding.
Allan and Ali hadn’t bothered with name cards at place settings so we were lucky enough to have them happen to sit with us for the meal!
The cupcakes were JUST THAT GOOD. And I did manage to take some home to have for breakfast and lunch on Saturday. I also bagged hubby a piece of cheese cake for his breakfast.
I wish I had another cupcake right now!
